Lovoo
If you’ve yet to hear of Lovoo, you’ve either been living under a rock or you’re new to the online dating world. Since 2011, Lovoo has amassed over 70 million members, with 7 million alone coming from the UK.
More accurately known as a social dating app, its users enjoy the platform for a variety of reasons—but mostly to meet people and watch or stream live videos.
What makes Lovoo a social dating app is the ability to post, share thoughts, comment, watch/post live videos, and so on. It’s a place for people to socialize online and hopefully meet in person to form friendships or relationships. But because it is considered a dating app, Lovoo hopes that the latter happens. As they put it, “We believe that love can happen anywhere.”
Lovoo Live Video was introduced in 2017 after the Meet Group acquired the dating app/site. Now its flagship feature, Lovoo Live Video has brought tons of more people to the platform.
It allows members to earn points called Diamonds that can be exchanged for cash or credits. This among other features like the Match game makes Lovoo fun and addictive for all its users.

Signing Up for Lovoo
When you sign up for Lovoo, you will provide basic information that includes an email, password, first name, and photo of yourself. After that, they want to know what you’re interested in finding on the platform (something serious, live streams, see what happens, something casual, and new friends or chats). If you would like to streamline this process, which really doesn’t save you that much time, you can sign up using your Facebook account.
At this point, you’re logged in and can start browsing profiles and checking out features without answering any more questions about yourself. However, the Lovoo algorithm won’t prioritize your profile to show up on other people’s feeds until you upload a photo of yourself. You can also provide other basic information about yourself such as if you’re a smoker or have kids. That’s pretty much all there is to it.

Of the 7 million members Lovoo has in the UK, most of them are men—75% male, 25% female. You’re probably thinking that’s an alarming ratio, but it’s actually normal for free dating apps of this nature (e.g. Tinder). The vast majority of these members are young singles interested in both relationships and friendship. However, 42% of Lovoo’s member base is 35 years old and over, so all age groups are welcome.
The great thing about Lovoo is that it’s completely free to use, and most users stick to the freemium service. But some users upgrade to the paid subscription plan, which gets you a few more features to help you meet more people. You can send more icebreakers, enjoy an ad-free environment, see who liked or viewed your profile, and get increased visibility.
Matching Process
On Lovoo’s app or website, you have the option to click the Discover tab or Match tab. These features are simple to learn and use. You can scroll through matches in the Discover section or refine your match by filtering by age range, gender, and location. Or, you can click “yay” or “nay” on each profile presented to you in the Match area. This feature is similar to the roulette-style matching system Tinder employs.
If you’re using Lovoo on the go, you can take advantage of the Radar feature that shows you singles according to your location. Understandably, this is exclusively an app feature since it uses geolocation technology. Just remember that if you want to see everyone’s profile photos, you’ll have to upload three of your own.
Contact Options
In order to start chatting with other members, you’re required to upload a profile photo. Once you’ve done that, there are a variety of ways to start chatting with people, whether it’s in Match, Discover, or Radar. Like other dating apps, you’ll be able to start chatting with people you’ve matched with. That means you liked them and they liked you back.
You also have the option to send icebreaker messages to other members. Instead of just liking them, you can send them an icebreaker message to get their attention. However, you only get to send one icebreaker a day as a free member. Paid members can send an unlimited number of messages per day, increasing the odds of getting noticed.
Lovoo App
While it’s possible to use Lovoo on your computer, many more people use the Lovoo app, available on both Apple and Android devices. The app is much more useful when meeting people out and about. Plus, it’s always in your pocket so you can respond to people in real-time as they message you.
Conclusion
Whether you like Lovoo or not, there’s no denying that it’s a popular dating app. Sure, profiles aren’t that detailed and there are no personality matching capabilities, but the platform is fun and easy to use. With tons of people sharing live videos and people to chat with, it’s no wonder Lovoo is so addicting. Chances are you’ll find at least one person to chat with on your first day using it.
If it’s something serious you’re interested in, you might want to look elsewhere. While it’s possible to find long-term companionship on Lovoo, that’s not what most people are using it for. Most members on the platform want a fun and entertaining way to go on casual dates or make friends. But you never know, those casual encounters could turn into something serious.
